How does my Goodbye handle my data?
Privacy and security of our users are of the utmost importance to us. Is using the app safe?
We have taken all necessary measures to ensure that our app is safe for all our users. Our developers have conducted extensive security checks to identify and minimize potential vulnerabilities. We use modern encryption technologies to ensure that all your personal data is stored securely and protected. Additionally, we work closely with security experts to ensure that our app meets the highest security standards. We do everything we can to create a safe environment in which you can use our app with confidence.
How does my Goodbye inform my relatives about my content on the app?
The user must select three to five confidants in advance. These confidants then receive an email from my Goodbye stating that the user has indicated that they wish to appoint them as a confidant. The confidant must confirm this instruction. It is required that this confirmation is reconfirmed annually by both the user and the confidants. This is important so that the confidant does not forget that the user is using my Goodbye and to ensure that both the user and the confidant maintain the intent and ability to perform this function.
After the user's death, the first confidant can submit a request to my Goodbye to access the app and view its contents. The confidants must contact my Goodbye and provide proof of the user's death, the so-called A form. After careful checking by my Goodbye, an unlock code is sent to the relevant confidant, after which access to the entire content of the app can be obtained via secure PDF including a download link for media such as photos, video and music.
Only confidants who are recognized by my Goodbye and are aware of their email addresses will receive the unlock code.
How long do surviving relatives have access to my data after my death?
The unlock code, which is provided, allows surviving relatives to access the app content for a period of 3 months after the death via a PDF file that displays the entire app content in an organized manner. It is important to note that photos and videos must be downloaded separately to personal devices as all data is automatically erased from my Goodbye's cloud and server after 3 months.

How long does it take before you send the unlock code to the confidant(s)?
After receiving proof of death or the A-declaration, we aim to send the unlock code within 8 hours.

Can I cancel my membership? And what happens to my data?
With us it is possible to cancel your membership, whereby we apply a notice period of 1 month. This means that your membership will be terminated at the end of the following month. With an annual subscription, the membership is terminated at the end of the year.

Your data will be automatically deleted from the cloud and the my Goodbye server after 3 weeks. It is important to know that this data is irrevocable and cannot be recovered after deletion.

What happens in the event the app is discontinued?
At my Goodbye, we understand how important it is for your data to remain secure, regardless of the app's future. While we are fully committed to ensuring the app's continuity, in the unfortunate case of discontinuation, we will provide you with a document containing all your data. This ensures that your efforts are not wasted, and you remain the owner of all the information you’ve stored in the app.
All stored data will be returned in an encrypted PDF file, either to you or, after your passing, to your designated trusted contacts. This file will include all your personal wishes and data as recorded in the app.
This way, we ensure that you and your loved ones will always have access to your crucial information, even if the app becomes unavailable.
